Cancer Decan III


Wednesday, July 12, 2017, marks the movement of the Sun into the third Decan (10 day segment) of the Astrological Sign of Cancer. The image for this time period, taken from Austin Coppock’s “36 Faces”, is ‘The Overflowing Cup’ and the Tarot Card associated with it is the 4 of Cups/Water.

In my upcoming Tarot deck, the “9 Key Tarot”, the 4 of Water is an image of an Ibis and it’s reflection, in the murky twilight sky. This waterbird pauses before his last catch of the day, to observe the natural cycle of sun moving into evening. Traditionally, the symbol of an overflowing cup is ‘Luxury’ – as the saying, “My cup overfloweth.”

It’s a good time to stop and make declarations of your gratitude for your sense of abundance, especially around those things which fill the well of your soul. But it also can be a time of overwhelm, where so many things are calling out for your attention that you just want it to stop!

The 4 of Water/Cups is where we come to an impasse on our uphill climb to the peak, toward the 10 of each suit. Pausing to reflect on the dog days of Summer is what this week is about.

What are the goals you have set forth for this Summer season? Have you been to a reunion or spent time enjoying the water and the warmth of the sun with your family? Have you decided to take better care of your health and imbibe in organic greens and cold watermelon?

I’m in the midst of clearing out dross from my office…this includes purging myself of papers stored from long, long ago, sorting and reorganizing what is still useful and can be of immediate use. It’s the way my organizing specialist, Lisa Sulgit, of “isimplify”, has had me look at my possessions; “Either love it, use it, or pass it along so someone else can use it.”

Those things that have outworn their value, or are no longer necessary for me to refer to while writing or creating art will be donated, recycled or trashed. Doing this kind of physical purging really helps me clear my head and I find new ideas springing up already! I plan to have ‘stations’ in different parts of the room so that I can attend to the myriad of interests I have with more FOCUS on each one.

This kind of purging really helps! Try it, now that the Decan of Cancer 3 energy moves you to PAUSE & REFLECT. Namaste’

Tsunami waves

Water like this terrifies me!
I get an actual physical impact in my body from powerful images like this one. Don’t you?!
I don’t remember ever being afraid while swimming, but have always honored,
and never turned my back on the ocean.

It’s an archetypal image, that of a flood. It is impressed into our collective consciousness as something we must revere, if not outright fear. It’s great vastness has potential for huge impact, sometimes quite calming and other times wildly out of control.
After several recurring flood dreams I realized that tsunamis, floods and dark water represent an overload of emotion to me and that something in my life has been overwhelming me unconsciously.

Now, after surviving *most* of my flood dreams, I can *stop* in the middle of them and acknowledge “this is a dream”. Then I can take control of the action!
That way I can be the star in my own movie and come out Empowered.
Try it, next time you face a fearful dream. Stand up to your fear, name it.
You will see it shrink and become far more manageable. You will find ways to out maneuver your fears and outwit them. btw, battling your fears and winning! – It feels great!

Determined Optimism – can it be learned?

“Smash my optimism into a thousand pieces! I will get up tomorrow and put on the face of a warrior. Because I am determined that the Universe wants us to be happy. Yes. She really does!”

The happiness I’m talking about is not the roses and bubbles and pink sunsets kind of happy. In fact, ‘Happiness is Bullshit’ was my argument just the other day; seeking it out is a waste of time and effort! Even if you reach your goals you will still feel empty at the end of the day and have to find new goals to strive toward. Happiness must be recognized in the moment; Now, I chose to be Happy. And Now. And Now…and then be reflected upon at the end of the day. With repetition, it can build new neural networks in the brain and affect changes within the Spirit.

Happiness is a byproduct of doing what you love, being true to your path and giving of yourself. But I believe “To Be Happy” is the essence that we are All seeking in life: and our desire, to be able to sigh at its end and think, “YES!”

Happiness entails being seen, heard, understood, loved, validated and belonging. Knowing our place in the tribe and contributing to the success of society validates one’s ego~ but we can’t depend on others to provide the basis for our internal contentment, because even with another, we are essentially alone in our Self.

Happiness that comes from within is even stronger than that. The Happiness of the Spirit appreciates beauty, truth and nobility, even in the midst of chaos and destruction~ recognizes and honors courage, even in the face of pain and death ~believes kind actions will one day create lasting change for the betterment of mankind~ and allows grace to flow to and through its Self. That is the kind of joy that has no end. It is the lasting joy that serves the Spirit and brings Peace.

Some gather things to surround themselves with; to protect themselves, their loved-ones, their accumulation of other stuff. But in the end, having stuff proves empty. The less stuff you have, the easier it is to focus on what’s real.
Some seek their obsessions; take thrill rides of extreme sports, sex, parties, drugs and alcohol, looking for a relief from their reality. But that’s a short-lived, dangerous path that leads to self-destruction.
Some go after it by seeking within proscribed ‘holy books’ or dedication to charitable causes because it is righteous. Those actions get closer to the essence of the thing, but without selfless intent~ we miss the mark and fall short.

The happiness that the Universe wants us to find is within our Selves. It is the eternal flame that survives death, that loves truly and deeply, without boundaries or conditions. It is more a Contentment. A way of feeling fulfilled. An inner-knowing that you are doing good work that serves the world. Teaching from a base of what you have learned through your own experience, so you know it is true for you and could apply to others. It is recognizing and remembering our True Essence.

Uplifting our fellows and showing them that life is a miracle that must not be squandered is a clarion call to all Spiritual Warriors. Our time here is limited. We’ve come here to learn lessons, to explore and experience, and to become spiritually perfected, so that we can take what we can only learn here and now, in the body, into higher realms of existence when we leave.

We must take off our masks of Personality or Personae to put on a Spiritual Warriors face, our authentic face, so that we can see the world as it is – and allow the world to truly see us. We must listen to our higher mind, and trust intuition to direct our feet in the right direction. We must act from the clarity of a heart that knows it is god-essence.

Sometimes the hardest lessons in life can become our greatest power. When we suffer we learn compassion and empathy. We can take this wound and turn it around in order to HEAL the world! Consider living this way, from your wounds; HEALING others with similar wounds. How uplifting would that be?

If we stay awake and alert, reminding ourselves moment by moment WHO WE ARE we will discover WHAT we’ve come here to do! There will be nothing that we will be able to find, but the joy and contentment of a well-lived and fulfilling life.

We can learn to be happy. By staying present to the eternal NOW. “I AM. Here and NOW. I choose to be my Highest Self. I choose to be HAPPY.” By practicing it like a martial art, staying determined in our center and not yielding to forces which tempt us to forget who we are…the essence of God herself.

Capricorn New Moon – we can be Idle No More

The New Moon at 22* Capricorn is the first since the pivotal 2012 Solstice which brings us a chance to declare what we are going to do with this renewed energy of the 5th sun. Now is the time that we must focus our inner drive toward making a better tomorrow for all sentient beings through our collective efforts.

Pluto has been in Capricorn for awhile now, foretelling changes that are to come in all the traditionally paternal areas of society. There are so many causes for social change that are worthy of our time and efforts. This New Moon is a reminder that we can no longer stay on the sidelines and watch the world growing more and more problematic. Its time to get involved- at whatever level we can. It is time to take a stand!

The power of equality between male and female, of sustenance and nurturance, is what the balanced Capricorn is about. Capricorn, the sea goat will go to any length, be it the bottom of the sea to the highest cliff, to discover truth and implement changes that provide for the even the weakest link. We can act as the Beneficient Father by focusing our efforts on restructuring, providing aid, working through sustained efforts, supporting traditions that serve and restructuring those that don’t. Pluto in Capricorn is about transforming the way it is into a better way for all to provide justice, equality, and liberty~ “Viva la revolution” would be a key-phrase for this New Moon phase.

And with the Sun (ego, the self) and 4 planets; Venus (relationship) the Moon (emotions, hopes and dreams), Mercury (communication), and Pluto (transformation) all in the sign of Capricorn right now, the time is RIPE for change! It’s as if a door has opened for change to occur. The insistence to see these efforts carried through, persistence in the face of obstacles and dedication to compassionate causes are all powerful upsides to this moment and the energy is here to provide us with a jump-start!

At this time when we see the position of the Father, or traditionally paternal institutions crumbling, we need to ACT UP to create changes in banking reform, political reform,  educational reform, decriminalization of drug laws, and the repeal of corporate personhood! We must know and trust that the return of the Mother is imminent through true nurturance of the people rather than multinational corporations. It’s up to us to make it so!

Idle No More, the coalition of First Nations of indigenous Canadians calling for upholding treaties that include representational government  has just formed. I believe this is a wake-up call to the world as a message of equality and human rights everywhere! I see it as the footsteps of the Great Mother stirring in the snow. We can follow her lead.

We must wake up and address Homelessness and Hunger, Domestic and Gun Violence, Affordable Universal Healthcare, including Mental Healthcare, Economic and Educational policies, the elimination of GMO food experimentation and the support of Clean Earth policies. There is so much to do!

Democracy and grassroots movements have the most power to impress real changes into societal norms. We all have to step up, speak up and make a point to do all we can to improve daily life for everyone. We are all in this together as we are all One.

It comes down to a few simple, Universal moral obligations; to Love our neighbors as our Selves. Do no harm. Take responsibility for our thoughts, words and deeds because we can create paradise as easily as hell. Discover the Mindful Awareness of this Moment. Choose Generosity of Spirit and Intentional Living. It’s not difficult, once you make up your mind to see it’s true, it becomes imperative. There are lots of venues out there, choose some that resonnate with your soul and put your Passions to work!

The Importance of Mindful Intention

Mindfulness is what the world needs today.

By living intentionally, with self-discipline, and focus, we can accomplish much more than we can just ‘stumbling along’. We all know its true, but do we remember it on a daily basis?

In my opinion, people today are so caught up in achievement…that they end up giving minimal, and less than stellar, effort into their work. And yet, even as they manage to hit the road to and from work, they are IN TRANCE, multitasking, their minds whirling a million miles a second—going through the days check-list of ‘stuff to do’. It’s surprising that more auto accidents don’t happen in rush hour traffic, frankly. Most of us ARE entranced, driving by subconscious power only.
In my experience of multitasking, I always end up spaced out and doing things less than my  best. I find it’s better to accomplish a few things well than many haphazardly. Have you ever walked into a room and wondered, “What the heck did I come in here to do?” Hmmm, yep! You were entranced with other ideas that distracted you! I know I’ve been like this a lot lately! ~: )

With mindful intention and clarity the quality of your productivity, especially attention to detail, will soar! It takes a careful mindset. I’ll share the process of my creative visualization; First of all I focus intently on the task at hand by moving my awareness/focus up to behind my eyes, and staring ahead of me. I visualize the details as I wish them to be done (perfectly, of course). Then I send my ‘energy of intention’ to the spot between my eyebrows and lean a bit forward into the task at hand. I open up my third eye and crown chakras and begin to ‘breathe through them’ in order to open them. Then, I start engaging the project, by paying attention with ALL my senses. I send energy out to the tips of my fingers and toes, and feel my body as a whole. Then I allow the creative energy to flow out and create What It Will!

This kind of focused attention is important when faced with emotional crisis as well; Bringing awareness to the your whole body at once helps ‘collect’ back the emotional energies that are scattered while in the initial shock of a crisis situation. As you imagine your collected energies coalescing, breathe deeply and regularly. See your psychic energy gathering at your core, between your heart and solar plexus into a small ball. This is called ‘centering‘.

Let that energy softly flow throughout your entire body, holding a reserve in your belly, and allow the excess to drain down through your feet and into the Earth. This is called ‘grounding’. Continue to slow your breath by exhaling more than you inhale. When you feel “collected”, take a deliberate breath and SMILE! You are always much more powerful than any emotion!

Containing emotional psychic energy is a good skill to have and continue to practice. It gives you the power of a Jedi warrior!

Meaningful Work

Meaningful work in the Age of Aquarius. Today the Sun is in the sign of Aquarius and Neptune goes retrograde for the next 14 years.
Its a momentous moment. Hhmm, a bit of redundancy there?

Neptune is one of the outer planets, and influences things like psychic ability, dreams, illusions/delusions, water and oil on a generational level. As it goes retrograde, (seen on Earth as an apparent backwards movement in the skies), it becomes time for us as humanity to review and plan for new ways to implement solutions that serve the greater good! We need to especially find ways to stop using oil and protect our water before it is too late.

The Harvard Business Review recently ran an article that gave advice to people in college as to how to go about gaining personal happiness and financial reward…something we’d all like to know a little more about in these times. I’d add that the most rewarding of ways to live ones life is to have it based on a strong ethical background. Think of the uber-wealthy who give much of their energy, time and money to charitable causes, and you will understand what I mean.
The major points the HBR suggested were;

*Travel. Nice, if you can afford it…travel in a way that you can connect to the local people and discover insights to local ways of life.

*Develop situational awareness. Find something that needs to be fixed or solved in the place where you are.
*Look into problems that affect you in a very personal way. Use your individual Passions for a Purpose greater than yourself.
*Connect with people working on big problems. Use the internet and personal connections to network; discover more than you might have wondered about, and use this information in positive ways to both expand your area of expertise – as well as experience. This makes you more valuable a commodity as a thinking worker and allows for greater level of opportunity to come your way!

*Happiness comes from the intersection of what you love,
what you’re good at, and what the world needs. This is the big sticker. Maybe you know yourself well enough to realize your strengths and avoid your weaknesses…maybe you know you want to be of service, but don’t know how to get there…then there’s the sticking point;
What is it that serves to excite you, interest you- what are the causes that are greater than yourself that you feel called to and are worthy enough for you to dedicate your life and time to serving?
Discover this and you’re on your way!

Some of these ‘big ticket items’ are Global warming, Financial equity, Sexual Equality, Human Rights- large areas of concern that may either need to be stopped, healed or repaired individually and globally. These don’t necessarily need to be in the area of your expertise, in fact, many people feel more rewarded by finding a passion that has always been ‘with them’ but they put aside, thinking there was ‘no money’ in it…..and took a different career path. Now is the time to change course!

Pluto is in Capricorn, and will be for another 20 years or so, which means that the old ways of doing things~ and old, patriarchal traditions in society are crumbling in order to make way for the new – which will serve everyone.

Everyone can help: in our own ways, in our own circles, in our own worlds.

This is the Age of Aquarius; WE ARE the generations of today and tomorrow, that will serve humanity and even out the playing field between rich and poor, the haves and the have nots, in unique and electrifying ways! Welcome to the 21st century and the New Age~

Be a carrier of Love and Light and Serve Others.
Its the most direct path toward happiness and success that there is!

What Do you Really Need?

What do you really NEED?
There are lots of things we believe we need; a certain amount of money to pay the mortgage and bills, certain kinds of food and clothing. We might want the latest upgrade to our computers or gadgets that make our life ‘easier’, but once we have them~ we find we can’t live without them!
Like, how did we ever live without a cell phone or Facebook?!

Im not saying that we need to be ascetics, but there are places we can cut back, cut down on consumption, reduce, reuse and recycle.
There are ways we can reclaim our TIME, our independence and self-sufficiency- without suffering-
all the while enriching our Quality of Life.

Consider your lifestyle: are there things you could change or do without, in order to satisfy the deeper longings of your soul? I won’t list too many here, because these things are personal, and individually, we need to look at our own behaviors to understand the true motivation behind our actions, but for example; *What need do those ‘latest’ new shoes fill? Do they make me feel prettier, more important, more loved and supported? Are shoes the best thing to fill that need?
*Is this new piece of jewelry really necessary, or does it just make me feel more worthwhile?
*Do I really need to buy these brownies? The answers may be ‘yes, occasionally I want to treat myself’, but the important point is that we pause to reflect, not act automatically out of habit or via an unconsciousness impulse.

Many people are unemployed today, and as a society, we are starting to realize that big homes, big cars, lots of money and possessions are not as necessary as we believed them to be. In times of struggle, there are always silver linings in the clouds. Look for them!

*Look inside to discover what the basics are that you need to feel content, safe and good about yourself. Can you pare-down and redefine what is important in your life?
The happiest and most fulfilled people are those whose needs are well-met, because they are simple!

DISCERNING the difference between something we want and something we need takes awareness and attention. When we live up to the higher goal of fulfilling our true needs, we become more successful in the Pursuit of Happiness.

Giving Back

There come times in our lives when we feel we’ve mastered a skill, or had an insight that illuminates our way of seeing things, and we feel we just *have* to share.
Have you ever felt it?

Many times, this kind of ‘push’ to share, to give back to the community, comes at an age of maturity, ~but not always. The earlier one learns ‘to return’, the easier it becomes, for the rest of his/her life.
Think of the young music student who helps a younger peer to improve their skills!
Think of a sixth grader helping a first grader to learn the joy of reading!
Then think of the grandmother, teaching her granddaughter to knit…
These are joys shared, which serve the greater good of everyone.

Finding activities that feed our soul are important things to do – throughout life.
So you have a job or career that provides your income, but what do you do in your down time, that feeds your soul? What is that spark of creativity, nurturing, teaching, or guidance, that come naturally to you, that you can contribute, give you a sense of accomplishment and pride?
Maybe this passion can be turned into a vocation;
What are your biggest dreams?
What would you do if you Knew you could not fail?
This is the Bliss we should all learn to follow.
To Live Large. To be Fierce!

Volunteering skills that only you have, can reinvigorate your Spirit and keep you charged up.
Many places are looking for people who may have lots of interest, if not a lot of experience, to teach a beginning course….in art, photography, home repair….coaching sports or guiding apprentices.
Sometimes a volunteer position is just enough to lead you into a new career.

*Do you have skills that are uniquely yours or you feel may help someone else through a rough patch?
Can you organize things or do new computer protocols come easy to you? Great, then share that with those of us who are left baffled!

*Do you have it in you to spend time with loved ones, to lend a listening ear, or hold a hand of someone who is craving companionship? Sharing just a few moments a week may be all someone else needs to stay ‘charged’ themselves.

Finding ways to Give Back to your co-workers, neighbors, family and friends creates small but intimate connections that not only serves another, but feeds the Spirit Within!
Remember, Your Spirit needs to be Fed too! <3

Seasonal Detox Time

It seems lots of people are getting sick right now. Either the flu has come early or people are responding to the typical stressers which arrive at the changing of the seasons. My guess is the latter.

Especially at the Fall and Spring Equinox times, people’s bodies naturally start to fend off the changes in temperature, new pollens in the air and the changing of daylight hours. These stressers can cause the body to react by showing symptoms of illness, in order to purge the body of accumulated toxins.
So… the best thing to do this weekend is a detox plan.

A day or two of detox is a great plan which helps ease you into the next season. Continuing the basics of this plan into your normal routine is something to aspire to.
My plan is to stop taking anything harsh into my body; no cigs, no alcohol, no meat, no dairy, no sugar, no white flour- AND to eat more local veggies, add more purified water. The top detoxifying veggies are; broccoli, garlic, spinach, cabbage, sprouts, blueberries, ginger and tumeric. So it looks like Indian food is on the menu! : ) That’s a Good Thing~ I love it!

I plan to exercise more; 45 minutes a day minimum, via walking, stretching, Tai Chi, dancing etc. and to take detox baths made of 1 cup of baking soda/1 cup of sea salt, a bit of Epsom Salts and assorted essential oils that I soak in. Did you know Epsom Salts are actually magnesium, which is good for your heart and muscles? It relieves pain and soreness as well as detoxifies and re-balances the body.

Since your mind recreates the perceptions and feelings it experiences into your body, it’s also important to create non-stressful situations for your spirit. Fasting from the mundane cares of the world, avoiding news reports, gossip and television shows, is also important to the health of your soul!
Create peaceful calm situations; take a walk in nature and really LOOK at the beauty in the colors of the changing leaves, the blueness of the sky, the path of the clouds, the texture of the tree bark and stones at your feet. Breathe in deeply of the breeze. Sit next to flowing water. Feel the warmth of the sunshine on your back. Appreciate the time you create FOR YOURSELF and be glad to experience being fully alive!

Most people probably dont know that in Biblical times people took a day, on or before their Sabbath, to fast and purify their bodies, before they entered their temples. A day of fasting and contemplation is a good practice, especially now, during the changing of the seasons. Treat your body like the temple of the soul that it is, and it will repay you with health.
